Interviewing Hints

1. Go to interview ALONE.
2. Arrive for your interview about 10 minutes early.
3. Dispose of chewing gum and lit cigarettes before entering the building.
4. DO NOT get annoyed and restless while waiting.
5. While waiting, watch what goes on around you. Read the company literature.
6. APPEARANCE COUNTS! First impressions are made by your appearance.
- Be conservative with the amount of jewelry worn.
- Avoid strong perfumes or colognes.
- Make sure hair is clean and styled.
- Dress in a business-like manner in conservative colors.
- Hands should be neatly manicured.
- Men should have a freshly shaven face.
- Women should strive for the natural look in make-up.
- Make sure that your shoes are shined.
7. Be prepared with your resume.
8. Smile as you enter.
9. Give your name distinctly.
10. Shake hands firmly.
11. Wait until the interviewer asks you to sit down.
12. Maintain good posture.
13. Use the interviewers title (Mr., Mrs., Miss, Ms.) not their first name.
14. Let the interviewer take the initiative.
15. Do not make money or benefits the issue.
16. Look directly at the interviewer. Don't be a floor watcher.
17. Answer the questions in full rather than a nod or saying "yes" or "no".
18. DO NOT discuss personal problems.
19. DO NOT bad mouth a former employer.
20. Never leave the interview without knowing follow-up procedures.
21. Leave promptly when the interview is over.
22. Express appreciation for the interview by a thank you letter the next day.
